Michael Osborne practises in commercial litigation, competition
law, and administrative and constitutional law. Michael acts for and advises
parties in competition matters, a variety of commercial disputes, including
contractual disputes, shareholders’ disputes, commercial fraud, and
employment matters, and also in administrative law and constitutional issues.
Michael was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1998, after completing his articles
as a Law Clerk to the late Justice John Sopinka of the Supreme Court of Canada.
He received his LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 1996, his M.A. from the University
of Toronto in 1991, and his B.A. from the University of Saskatchewan in 1988.
Michael worked at the Competition Bureau before and during his legal studies,
and has successfully represented the Commissioner of Competition in cases before
the Competition Tribunal. He has acted as trial and appellate counsel before
all levels of court, including the Superior Court of Justice and Court of Appeal
for Ontario, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Michael is an active member of both the Canadian Bar Association's Competition Law Section and the American Bar Association’s Anti-trust Section. Michael is the Vice-Chair of Competition Law Section's Reviewable Matters and Private Actions Committee, and previously served as the Competition Law Section's representative on the Competition Tribunal Advisory Committee on Electronic Filing. Michael is also a member of the Advocates` Society and l'Association des juristes d'expression française de l'Ontario. Michael contributes frequently to newsletters published by the ABA's Anti-trust Section, The Litigator, and other legal periodicals.
