Donald S. Affleck is recognized as one of Canada's foremost competition law practitioners. An experienced litigator at both trial and appellate levels and before a wide range of specialized tribunals, Don has acted as counsel in numerous competition law and trade practice cases, as well as estate, environmental and product liability litigation.
Don recently served as arbitrator on the softwood lumber anti-dumping case under NAFTA. In the 1970s, he was counsel to the standing committee of the House of Commons on Finance, Trade and Economic Affairs during consideration of extensive amendments to federal Competition and Banking legislation. From 1980 to 1982, Don was Chief Counsel to the Royal Commission on Newspapers.
Don obtained his LL.B. from the University of Toronto in 1964 and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1966. He was certified as a specialist in civil litigation by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1988. Don is co-author of "Canadian Competition Law", a recognized and often referred to two volume loose-leaf service on the competition law of Canada, first published in 1988.
